Strikes could add to NHS physiotherapy wait times
Physio Med, one of the UK's leading physiotherapy solution providers, is concerned that the planned public sector strike on November 30th could mean even longer waits for NHS physiotherapy patients.
NHS members of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (CSP) voted to join the estimated two million government workers that are planning to walk out at the end of the month, which is likely to disrupt a wide range of public services, including schools, bus services, immigration controls, courts, job centres, driving tests, councils and hospitals.
While Physio Med supports the rights of physiotherapists to protest over the Government's proposed pension changes, it fears that services will be affected.
Phil Clayton, Managing Director of Physio Med, said: "Our clients - both in businesses and private patients - will not be affected by the strike but we are concerned that the action will have a knock on effect on NHS waiting times. Appointments on that day may be cancelled and with an average wait time of more than 11 weeks to see an NHS physiotherapist that could really impact patients.
"For businesses whose employees are off work waiting for treatment this could extend the period of absence."
Physio Med provides cost effective Occupational Physiotherapy and Ergonomic solutions to major national businesses including Royal Mail, Waitrose, Rolls Royce and the Department of Work & Pensions. Employees are assessed within hours of reporting an injury and are referred for treatment by a Chartered Physiotherapist within just a few days, helping employers reduce sickness absence levels and optimise staff morale, performance and productivity.
